Disable Autoplay Windows 2000/XP

To Disable CD autoplay, completely, in Windows XP Pro

1) Click Start, Run and enter GPEDIT.MSC

2) Go to Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, System.

3) Locate the entry for Disable Autoplay and modify it as you desire.

I sure hopes this works- autoplay has been driving me batty, every time I'd get rid of it and set a restore point the next time I booted up there it was again!!! I'll let ya knowhow things turn out.

OK Great stuff,the autoplay feature itself is gone, but I still get the dingding-dongdong chime occasionally. How do I get rid of that ? Please, Thanks......Jim

Because of some bug in gpedit, this doesn't work all the time, and viruses can find way to avoid this protection. The best way to disable autoplay/autorun is using tool Autoplay Disabler Pro ( http://www.autoplaydisabler.us ). It's easy to use, free to download, and it really works!
